Video Wig Review: Tyler by Rene of Paris in Color Auburn Sugar

I bought this wig to match what there is of my bio hair at the moment, and it’s pretty darn close in both style and color – but of course, so much better. I have to accept that my real hair will never be as good as my wigs!

What I’m Wearing Now: Wigs of the Moment

I am still wearing my bio hair to work (which has gotten busier since I am not only finishing up my internship but working a paying job as well, one that will turn to full-time work when I graduate with my Master’s in December) but I sure do miss my wigs. I throw them on any chance I get in the evening or on the weekends, and yes, sometimes I just wear them around the house for the heck of it – I’m weird, I know.

Since the bio hair is short though, I’ve gravitated towards shorter styles; I don’t mind changing up cuts or even colors within reason, but I do like to keep my length somewhat consistent. Makes it less noticeable to others. So here are the wigs I’ve been wearing a lot lately when I am not at work:

Felicity is the easy winner here – the other day I stopped by the post office while wearing it (they know all about my wigs since it’s where I do all my shipping and receiving) and one of the women who works there told me it looked just like I’d straightened my bio hair. In fact she kept staring at it talking about how uncanny it was that it looked so natural. The Layered Bob by HairDo is a fabulous style and I get tons of compliments  whenever I wear it – I was on the fence about getting it in a darker color that matches my real hair better but all the positive response I got when I wore it out today have pretty much convinced me to go for it (I’m thinking of the 6/30H). Shannon is newer and hasn’t gotten as much wear yet but it is another style I can pull off; I love the Piper I just reviewed but for now it’s a little long. I am hanging on to it, though, to wear  more later when my hair has grown a bit more.

Video Review – New Wigs for Spring 2012: Piper by Rene of Paris in Ginger Brown

I believe this style came out for Spring so that’s why I gave this post that title, even though we’re well past spring by now. Right now this style is exclusively sold on Wigs.com, and they list it at 30% off, which comes to around $63. I think it’s much cuter out of the box than it looks in the photos!

Video Review – Shannon by Rene of Paris in Color Ginger Brown

Here’s a cute little mid-length style that’s simple and easy to wear. And here also is my first attempt at using my Canon EOS 7D to film video!  I was so distracted and flustered over using new equipment that I forgot to film the inside of the cap, though.

Video Review – Felicity by Rene of Paris in Color Dark Chocolate

Well, I still can’t upload that Morgan review to Vimeo, but I decided to try uploading a completely different video and it worked fine. I know my video settings are the same for both vids, but for some reason Vimeo doesn’t want to accept Morgan as an “acceptable file format.” Whatever, Vimeo.

Anyway, here’s Felicity by Rene of Paris as uploaded to my Vimeo page. Tried this one long ago and it was awful, yet this one is really cute. Just one more way a wig-lover stays hooked on wigs. Even ones you’ve bought and rejected in the past might be cute when you buy them again later. Unfortunately that can also work in the reverse!

What I’m Wearing Now: Wigs of The Week

I think this update is a little late in coming, but I’ve had an unusually un-busy week, which as you know sometimes leads to getting even less done than you do when you are busy. In spite of my respite from school and internships, I managed to get out and about a bit and wear some great hair while doing so. Here’s what I’ve been wearing since the last update.

And yes, the two long straight Ferres are still winning:

Because of the cost of those Ferres, I’ve been wearing them out but taking them off when I get home and replacing them with something else. I’ve found Laine in Auburn Sugar to be a nice compliment to them, as well as the Bridgette by Jacklyn Smith, although I already managed to ruin that one by trying to trim the bangs – I should know better than that by now, I know (I had already ordered a backup since I really liked that one, so at least I know another one is already on the way). Samantha was worn out with a friend one day when I didn’t feel like dealing with a lacefront – Samantha is still the easiest go-to wig in my collection.

And on a side note: I was an epic fail at wearing a wig to my boot camp class, so I’ve been bio-hairing it to my workouts, but the class made plans to meet for happy hour one night when no class was going on; in the end I said to hell with it and showed up in Soho Chic anyway. The reactions ranged from completely clueless (“Oh, I thought you’d just dyed it a different color”) to familiar (“Is it human or synthetic? My boss wears human hair wigs”) to enthusiastic (“Wow – that’s gorgeous! I love it!”). No one reacted in the least bit negatively to my dramatically different hair and, for the most part, didn’t seem to care much at all. If you’re going to show up somewhere in a wig that gives you an instant extra 20 inches of hair, you’ve got to do it with the right attitude and be willing to discuss it with others, but if you can do that, it’ll probably work out fine.
